Graphite on paper, 9cm x 12cm, produced in 20 hours.
Context:
The original was completed in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic. Referencing a photograph I had taken in 2017 of the famous artist’s square in Paris - Place du Tertre . I thought of this place during lockdown as a place so full of life and daily creativity and how that was likely torn away due to the regime of isolation. For this drawing I removed the usual tables and chairs, people and personal objects that existed in the original photograph to create an empty, deserted shop front where a man once sat. This piece is a symbol of nostalgic melancholy along with the hope that the beautiful locations around the world - our hubs for socialising, memories and art would return to normal.
